The purpose of developing a Strategic Plan is (1) to provide both structure and transparency to actions taken on behalf of the community; and (2) to help staff prioritize time and resources in a manner that reflects City Council priorities.
The City Council adopted an updated Strategic Plan effective August 13, 2019, which established goals and objectives to guide operational focus during the 12 month period from July 2019 through June 2020. Council was provided with a report regarding the progress of achieving plan objectives on October 22, 2019. In addition, a list of Strategic Plan objectives accomplished during the period from July 2019 through December 2019, was provided to Council at the Strategic Planning Session on January 24, 2020.
To develop recommended updates to the Strategic Plan, executive staff meetings were held to review the status of existing objectives and identify possible updates and/or new goals and objectives. The objectives listed in the Strategic Plan are the projects and programs associated with each goal that will be started or achieved during the twelve month period beginning January 1, 2020. While the Strategic Plan priorities represent work that is additional to the City's ongoing "baseline" operations, many of the priorities are designed to change or improve how the City's "baseline" operations are executed.
For an objective to be included in the Strategic Plan, it must:
- Help to advance one or more City Council priorities.
- Be initiated or completed within the Plan's twelve month cycle.
- Have adequate resources in the City's budget to get the work done.
