Staff Report

Subject:Extension of the City of Rocklin's Local Board and Commission Appointments to September 30, 2020

Date:May 12, 2020

Submitted By:Steven Rudolph, City Manager

Department:City Manager's Office

Staff Recommendation:

Adopt a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Rocklin extending the term of appointments for members of the Board of Appeals, Community Recognition Commission, Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission, and the Planning Commission from June 30, 2020 to September 30, 2020.

BACKGROUND:

The City Council has established Boards and Commissions to review City programs, projects, and community issues. These Boards and Commissions provide greater community participation and input into local government and facilitate informed decisions by the City Council.  Board and commission members serve a 4-year term and are appointed to serve from July 1st through July 30th.  The Youth Commission member serves a 1-year term and also appointed to serve from July 1st through June 30th.

Due to the recent coronavirus outbreak, the California Governor issued a stay at home order on March 19, 2020, and public health authorities continue to recommend persons at high risk for severe illness stay at home if possible.  In light of the coronavirus outbreak, it was not practicable to start the process for interviewing candidates in April for the board and commission appointments in June.

Thorough recruitment efforts are necessary to encourage a diverse and qualified group of community members to serve on the city's various boards and commissions .  As such, staff recommends extending the board and commission terms scheduled to expire on June 30, 2020 to September 30, 2020.
