Receive the Rocklin Police Department's Third Quarter Report
BACKGROUND:

Overall crime in the City of Rocklin increased to 15 crimes per one thousand population, up from 13.3 crimes per thousand in 2019 (+13%). Total part 1 crimes increased by 15%. This increase is represented by one (1) homicide, six (6) sexual assault crimes and two additional robberies over the same period in 2019. Total property crimes across our City increased 15% (+135) over the same period 2019. The vast majority of these are larceny crimes representing theft from vehicles (+40%) and motor vehicle theft (+23%).

 

Most vehicle larceny crimes are for theft from an unlocked vehicle. 71% of all crimes occurring in the City are represented through locked and unlocked vehicle burglaries (45%), and larceny (26%). Shoplifting decreased by 1%. Residential and commercial burglary show a slight increase of 4% (+6), auto theft shows an increase of 23% (+16) from the previous 2019 time period. In addition, aggravated assault displays a 7% decrease over 2019 with two (2) less occurrences. Total traffic collisions across the City decreased by 13% (-43). This reduction represents an 11% (-7) decrease in injury related collisions and a 13% (-36) decrease in non-injury collisions.

 

This quarter represents our community still working through COVID-19 with an overall decrease in officer initiated activity to include traffic stops and citations. While crime reports remain static 3568 vs 3569, overall calls for police service have decreased by 1,106 (-4%). Officer initiated activity has decreased by 6,744 (-29%) incidents. This decrease is in response to our employee directive to limit nonemergency contacts with the public during the pandemic in an attempt to limit exposure and keep our workforce safe and healthy.
