Subject:Community Recognition Commission Procedures

Date:January 26, 2021

Submitted By:Michael Young, Management Analyst

Department:City Manager's Office

Staff Recommendation:

Adopt a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Rocklin Approving Procedures for the Community Recognition Commission.
BACKGROUND:

The Community Recognition Commission (CRC) was established by Ordinance No. 1091 on March 27, 2018 and is governed by the rules and regulations in Chapter 2.45 of the Rocklin Municipal Code, which was updated by Ordinance No. 1109 on Jan. 8, 2019, to adjust the CRC meeting schedule.

Chapter 2.45 of the Municipal Code states the CRC can establish rules and regulations for the conduct of the business consistent with the ordinance, but that the procedures must be approved by the City Council.

The procedures outline how nominations will be accepted and honorees recommended by the CRC to City Council for the Ruhkala Community Service Awards and the Wall of Recognition. Meeting topics and schedules, and how honorees should be recognized are also included.

The CRC discussed the procedures at their regular meeting held on November 18, 2020, and directed staff to submit the updated procedures to the City Council for consideration and approval.

Fiscal Impact:

Anticipated costs for additional ceremonial events recommended in the procedures are estimated at $500 annually and will be budgeted within the respective fiscal year.
