Subject:Development of a City Donation Process

Discuss the establishment of a 2x2x2 working group to develop  a process for donations made to the City, and provide direction to staff. 
BACKGROUND:

At the December 8 2020 City Council meeting, Councilmember Broadway requested a future agenda item to establish a 2x2x2 working group.  The working group would be comprised of 2 representatives each of the City Council, the Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission, and the Community Recognition Commission. 

 

The purpose of the working group would be to draft a policy for the City Council’s consideration to address requests from the public to make donations to the City on behalf of an individual, organization or event.  In many cases, this is done to honor an individual; however the donation could be for a variety of other reasons such as recognizing a milestone achievement, or when a business or service club wishes to provide a community amenity. Typical donations would include benches to be installed in parks or trail areas, trees, or monetary donations.  

This Staff Report has been reviewed by the City Attorney for legal sufficiency and by the City Manager for content.
