In January, CalRecycle released a Notice of Funding Available for costs related to Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383). These funds are one-time grant funds with no matching requirement. Staff completed the grant application on February 1, 2022, however the grant terms also require the City Council authorize the Director of Public Services to submit the grant. If approved, the signed resolution will be provided to CalRecycle and will make the City eligible to receive these additional funds upon grant approval.
SB 1383 requires local jurisdictions to conduct education and outreach on organics recycling to all residents, businesses, haulers, and others. SB 1383 also requires the City to report on a wide variety of information regarding SB 1383 implementation. These reports are required during the initial compliance period (April 1, 2022) and annually thereafter. Additional staffing needs are also being evaluated in light of the new workload created by SB 1383.
The funds provided from the CalRecycle grant will be used to help offset the cost of implementing SB 1383.
