Since late 2009, after eliminating their campus police force, Sierra Joint Community College District (Sierra College) officials have entered into several contracts with the City of Rocklin to provide Police services to the campus. The partnership between the district and the department has proven itself to be a great benefit for the community as a whole. This partnership helps maintain a higher degree of safety on campus, allows for Rocklin Police Department (RPD) officers to better connect with students and staff, and provides quicker response times. This is accomplished by RPD officers being more accessible and visible on campus. This partnership has also allowed the City to participate in the police service aid (PSA) program, through which several hires have been attained.
The current contract is about to expire and Sierra College desires to enter into another five-year contact, covering the period July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2027. Staff recommends continuing this partnership for the following reasons:
• The College has expressed a strong desire to continue contracting for Police Services, with the hope of reduced costs for the College.
• Rocklin PD has successfully provided police services to Sierra College for more than ten years.
• College students, staff and visitors have expressed high satisfaction with Rocklin Police Services.
This contract will also be presented at the Sierra College Board of Trustees Meeting on June 14, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. for acceptance.
